A senior staff nurse at the Chatmohar Upazila Health Complex was left in critical condition after being brutally attacked with a sharp weapon by her ex-husband during her shift on Friday morning.

The attack occurred around 8:30 AM on Friday, January 9, in the emergency department of the hospital. The victim, identified as Sultana Jahan Dolly (46), was finishing her night shift and preparing to head home when her ex-husband, Amirul Islam, allegedly stormed the premises. Witnesses report that Amirul attacked Dolly with a sharp object, inflicting deep wounds on her neck, stomach, and both arms. Following the assault, the suspect fled the scene immediately.

The couple’s relationship history was reportedly tumultuous that they married roughly three years ago in a second marriage for both parties. The pair had divorced and reconciled twice before. Dolly officially divorced Amirul again on January 3, following a series of disagreements after she began her post at the health complex two months ago. Dolly alleged that Amirul had been threatening her life and attempting to defame her by sending inappropriate images to her colleagues via WhatsApp and Messenger.

The victim had recently filed a general diary (GD) with the police regarding the harassment, which reportedly further enraged the suspect.

Dolly was rescued by colleagues in serious condition and is currently receiving treatment at Chatmohar Hospital. While Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Humayun Kabir confirmed she received first aid, her condition remains unstable and critical.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Sarwar Hossain of Chatmohar Police Station stated that law enforcement visited the scene shortly after the incident. While the police are prepared to take legal action, they are currently awaiting a formal written complaint from the victim’s family to proceed with the case.
