A fire broke out late Tuesday night at the Pahartali Railway Workshop in Chattogram, sparking concerns over the cause of the blaze. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM in the "CHR shop" area of the facility, where old scrap materials were piled up.
Two units from the Agrabad Fire Station arrived promptly and brought the flames under control within 30 minutes. Members of the Railway Protection Force (RNB) and Ansar initially spotted the fire and alerted the fire service.
There are conflicting reports regarding the origin of the fire is suspicious. Some sources noted that the area had no active work or electrical connections at the time, leading to fears of planned arson.
Another theory suggests the fire may have been ignited by sparks from a gas cutter used to dismantle scrap materials previously sold at auction.
Mustafa Zakir Hasan, the Divisional Supervisor (Factory), confirmed that while the fire was quickly neutralized, a formal investigation is needed to determine the exact cause. No major damage to railway machinery or infrastructure has been reported yet.
