Dense fog and icy winds disrupt life in Islampur Upazila.

A biting cold wave accompanied by dense fog and icy winds has brought normal life to a standstill in Islampur Upazila, Jamalpur. For several days, the lack of sunlight has intensified the chill, leaving low-income earners and vulnerable groups in significant distress.

Children and the elderly are the hardest hit by the plunging temperatures. Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. A.M.A. Abu Taher reported a surge in patients suffering from diarrhea, skin diseases, and various cold-related respiratory issues.

Local health authorities claim necessary measures are in place to manage the increasing patient load. Daily wage laborers and low-income workers are unable to go out for work, leading to a near-total halt in their earnings.

Many residents have been forced to light fires using straw and wood on roadsides to stay warm. Locals are calling for the immediate distribution of winter clothes and emergency relief from the government and private donors to prevent further suffering.
