A child named Safwan (4) tragically died due to lack of supervision due to mother's mobile phone and TV addiction in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi.
The incident took place on Wednesday (December 17) night in the clubhouse area of Boro Kaibartkhali village of the upazila.
The deceased Safwan is the son of Manik Sikder, a covered van driver of the village.
The child's father said that Safwan was playing in the house when he went out for work in the afternoon. At one point in the game, the child's neck got entangled in a solar power plant hanging inside the house, and it is believed that he died of suffocation.
Rajapur Police Station OC Nazrul Islam said that the child died after the battery-less solar power plant in the house got entangled in his neck. At that time, the child's mother was busy with her mobile phone and television. The child's sister was also by her side, but she did not understand anything.
The child was later rescued and taken to Rajapur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow of grief over the area. At the same time, there has been a call for parents to be more careful with their children.
