The northern district of Panchagarh, particularly Tetulia, is experiencing a severe cold wave with temperatures fluctuating between 11°C and 12°C, reaching a low of 10°C on Thursday morning.
The extreme cold, accompanied by heavy fog on roads and highways from night until morning, is causing immense suffering among local residents, especially the elderly and those living in slums. The frigid conditions are hindering work attendance and forcing people in rural areas to burn fires and purchase warm clothes.
Furthermore, the number of cold-related diseases has surged, increasing pressure on local hospitals. According to Jitendra Nath Roy of the Tetulia Meteorological Office, the lowest recorded temperature was 12.0°C on Wednesday, and temperatures are expected to fall further in the coming days.
