Human chains were formed in three locations in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria, calling for a change in the BNP's nominated candidate. These chains took place in the Upazila Sadar, Fandauk, and Kunda areas from 10 am until noon on Wednesday, November 19.
M. A. Hannan, the Upazila BNP President, has received the initial nomination from the party for the Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar) constituency. The human chain participants insisted on changing the candidate and proposed that Brahmanbaria Bar Association President Advocate Kamruzzaman Mamun be nominated instead. The speakers urged the party's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, to rethink the nomination. They warned that if the candidate remains unchanged, the BNP could suffer significant losses in the Brahmanbaria-1 constituency.
Local leaders voiced their concerns that the chosen candidate, M. A. Hannan, who is also the Nasirnagar Upazila BNP President, has not taken part in any previous national elections and lacks grassroots support. Although he has run for Union Parishad Chairman multiple times, he has faced defeat. They expressed frustration over the selection of a candidate who has previously lost in the Union Parishad elections for a parliamentary position.
Rezia Begum, who joined the human chain at Upazila Sadar, stated, "Qamruzzaman Mamun has devoted his life to the party. He is a leader for the common people. We have come together to demand that he be nominated by the BNP."
Shoab Reza added, "Mamun Bhai is a deserving candidate for the BNP. We want to see him as an MP, which is why we are calling for a change in the party's nomination."
Advocate Kamruzzaman Mamun remarked, "The nominated individual has also failed in the Union Parishad elections. That’s why the people here are consistently organizing to demand a change in the candidate."
M. A. Hannan said, "The BNP leadership has once more demonstrated that MP nominations can be achieved through grassroots efforts. I'm looking forward to bringing the seat to the BNP for the first time. I really hope I can hand over the seat to the BNP for the first time. Any conspiracy outside of the party's decision won't be effective, InshaAllah."
