

A preparatory meeting was held in Nalchity, Jhalakathi, ahead of Sharadiya Durga Puja 2026, with authorities discussing security and overall arrangements for ensuring a peaceful and trouble-free celebration. Government-allocated relief rice was also distributed among poor and disadvantaged people.
The meeting was organised by the Nalchity Upazila administration on Thursday (October 8). Officials and stakeholders discussed preparations and the law-and-order situation to ensure the festival is held peacefully and without disruption.
Jhalakathi-2 (Nalchity-Jhalakathi Sadar) constituency lawmaker Israt Sultana Elen Bhutto attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Special guests included Nalchity Upazila BNP President Md Anichur Rahman Khan Helal, former adviser to Jhalakathi District BNP Golam Mostafa Salu, former vice-president of Nalchity Upazila BNP, former Kulkathi Union chairman and senior joint convener of the Nalchity Upazila Freedom Fighters Command Alhaj Bir Muktijoddha Md Rafiqul Islam Molla, Nalchity Upazila Jubo Dal convener Touhid Alam Manna, member secretary Saidul Kabir Rana, and Nalchity Upazila Puja Celebration Committee President Palash Sajjan.
Leaders from different levels of the upazila and union BNP, along with other stakeholders, also attended the programme.
The meeting was chaired by Nalchity Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pratik Kumar Kundu.
Participants discussed strengthening security at different Puja mandaps, maintaining law and order, ensuring electricity supply, improving road connectivity and traffic management, and making overall arrangements for the festival.
All concerned were urged to remain vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents during the Durga Puja celebrations.
Officials said the upazila administration would provide all necessary support and security measures to maintain a peaceful environment throughout the festival. Law-enforcement agencies will remain responsible for round-the-clock monitoring of Puja mandaps and maintaining normal law-and-order conditions.
Officials from the upazila administration, elected representatives, law-enforcement personnel, Puja committee leaders, political leaders and activists, and representatives from different professions attended the meeting.
Following the meeting, government-allocated relief rice was distributed among poor and disadvantaged residents.
