

A truck driver was killed in an attack by alleged robbers in Kalihati, Tangail, with two suspects arrested in connection with the incident.
The deceased was identified as Md Rajib Hossain, 32, son of Abul Hossain of Thyangjora area in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday (October 4) beside Shapla Metal Industries in the Elenga municipal area on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge Highway.
According to police and local sources, Rajib was travelling from Kurigram to Dhaka with a truck loaded with stones. He stopped the truck at the location and got down to relieve himself when several alleged robbers attacked him.
At one point, the attackers reportedly struck him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. He died at the scene.
Hearing Rajib’s screams during the attack, local residents rushed to the spot. They caught one alleged member of the robbery group, Mintu, 32, and handed him over to police.
Mintu is the son of Shahid Mia of Uttarpara village in Elenga municipality of Kalihati upazila.
As locals arrived, another three to four alleged members of the group fled the scene. Police later conducted a drive and arrested another suspect, identified as Faruk.
Kalihati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kaiyum Khan Siddiqui said the two arrested suspects and the truck had been taken into police custody.
The deceased’s body was sent to the Tangail morgue for autopsy, he said.
Police are investigating the actual circumstances of the incident and working to identify and arrest others allegedly involved in the attack.
