Ashekan-e-Auliya Bangladesh held a mass rally at Sylhet’s Court Point on Saturday with demanding an end to alleged irregularities, improved governance and complete financial transparency at the Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Dargah Sharif.
Presided over by the organization's chairman and senior journalist Zaman Chowdhury the speakers urged authorities to dismantle the current 11-member issue-resolution committee. Instead, they proposed holding a broad-based public hearing comprising government officials, local ministers, civil society, press clubs, religious scholars and legal representatives to address management concerns.
Addressing the crowd, Senior Joint Secretary General Sohel Talukdar emphasized the shrine's 700-year spiritual legacy and called for impartial investigations into allegations of fraud, mismanagement and administrative lapses.
The organization outlined key demands, Open accountability regarding shrine income, expenditures and staff recruitment. Structural renovations and upgrades to the Nongorkhana (community kitchen) to ensure quality food service. Courteous treatment of foreign visitors and tourists.
Rally leaders warned that if authorities fail to implement these reforms, they will mobilize a broader public movement with demanding the resignation of the shrine’s chief Mutawalli (custodian). They reiterated that a inclusive public hearing remains the most effective path toward preserving the sanctity and heritage of the sacred site.
