The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country as the southwest monsoon advances, even as a mild heatwave persists in several western and northern districts.
According to the latest meteorological bulletins issued on Tuesday (June 9), a low-pressure area currently extends from West Bengal to the northwest Bay of Bengal. The southwest monsoon has already advanced into the Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, with favorable conditions to spread across the rest of the country over the next three to four days.
Rainfall Warning Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning, are expected in many areas of the Chattogram, Sylhet, and Mymensingh divisions. Similar weather conditions are likely in parts of Dhaka, Rangpur, Khulna, and Barishal, with isolated showers possible in Rajshahi. The Met Office also warned that localized moderate to heavy rainfall may occur.
Ongoing Heatwave Despite the incoming rain, a mild heatwave continues to sweep over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Nilphamari, Chuadanga, and Khulna. Day and night temperatures may rise slightly nationwide on Tuesday, though they are expected to stabilize by the evening as rainfall activity intensifies.
