A courtyard meeting focused on ending violence against women and children, preventing child marriage, and promoting women’s empowerment was held in Nageshwari, Kurigram, on Thursday afternoon.
The event, organized by the Munni Nari Unnayan Sangstha, took place at the organization’s office in Hajipara Gobardhanerkuti. Presided over by the organization's president, Munni Khatun, the meeting featured Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer Soheli Parveen as the chief guest.
During her address, Soheli Parveen emphasized that women can achieve financial independence through handicrafts and home-based self-employment, contributing significantly to the national economy. She also issued a stern warning against social evils like dowry and child marriage, stating that the administration maintains a "zero-tolerance" policy toward such crimes.
"Law enforcement alone is not enough; we must build social resistance in every neighborhood," Parveen remarked. She urged citizens to report any instances of abuse or illegal marriage to the authorities immediately.
Other speakers included trade trainer Nazma Akhter and the organization's secretary, Mahbuba Akhter.
